University of Maryland, Baltimore: BioPark Building No. 2

BioPark is a new biomedical research park adjacent to University of Maryland Baltimore,
a top-ten public research institution. This project is Building No. 2 of a projected
10-building West Side research park. Kibart was responsible for the mechanical,
electrical, and plumbing design of Building 2, a 260,000 SF LEED Certified High
Rise Bio-Tech Research and Development Facility. This high rise building is designed
for a LEED Silver Rating and exceeds ASHRAE 90.1-1999 by 41.9%. Systems included:
- Variable volume laboratory airflow.
- Variable primary chilled water
plant.
- Variable primary heating water plant.
- Water reduction restroom
fixtures.
- Stainless steel lab exhaust systems.
- High Delta T/Low
flow heating and cooling systems.
- 100% outside air for lab spaces.
- Dual
parallel sanitary waste streams for lab and non-lab systems.
- Dual electrical
distribution system for tenant and building common uses.
- Fluorescent T-5
lamping for energy reduction.
- Design for future electrical power upgrades
as tenant fitout increases.
- Outdoor pad mounted switchgear and transformers.
- Outdoor
300 KW diesel generator.
